With the use of an Acme screw or a Hydraulic drive, the vertical platform lift is a safe, economical, and space effective way to overcome architectural barriers up to twelve feet high for residential and commercial application.
Vertical platform lifts are installed in existing and some new constructions. Due to the wide variety of applications and available options, specifications vary greatly from job to job. In general, the vertical platform lift consists of a machine tower with a lifting platform, selected and dimensioned to provide adequate lifting height to suit the individual building requirements. The lift can be used either indoors or outdoors to vertically transport a wheelchair user or mobility impaired person over a barrier creating access to or within a building.
Another style is manufactured with a stationary enclosure, including gates and doors, as needed for each application. These units do not require a hoistway or runway to be built by others. Some of the enclosures are built with steel or aluminum panels and others can be built with clear or tinted acrylic (plexiglass) panels. The acrylic models are attractive and permit ambient light into the lift hoistway. The user has a view from the lift during operation. The enclosure models can be enclosed overhead to protect the user from inclement weather. Optional lighting and ventilation can be provided.
