By Michael Leary

Throughout the process of building a home, you have many activities to coordinate and subcontractors to work with. You don’t need any additional headaches or hassles. Therefore, when it comes to home elevators, make sure the installer you use is committed to working with you from concept to completion in whatever means is helpful to you. They should be prepared to do as much or as little as you require in order to make the installation of home elevators in your homes as easy and profitable for you as possible. To make sure you are working with the right home elevator subcontractor, ask these 10 questions about any company you are considering:
- Will they provide us with presale information to assist in estimating profit margins?
- Will they provide marketing material and product information for us to provide to our customers in order to educate them on the benefits and options pertaining to home elevators?
- Do they have knowledgeable staff who can meet with us, our customers, or an architect, if necessary, in order to review requirements and options, answer questions, and assist in planning?
- Do they offer a selection of cost effective models that reduce the likelihood of design or installation challenges? For example, can they provide a model whose design eliminates the need for a machine room?
- Can they give us access to architectural tools (including technical details, specifications, typical drawings and CAD details) to help in the home design process?
- Will their staff work closely with us throughout the entire process? Will they coordinate all planning, scheduling, product manufacturer involvement, site preparation, permits / inspections, installation, and post-installation follow up?
- Do they have the ability and flexibility to do as much or as little of the site construction as we require?
- Do they offer us the ability to provide our customers with a qualified company for ongoing planned maintenance and emergency service?
- Do they have expertise in all types of accessibility equipment, including Home Elevators, Wheelchair Lifts (Vertical Platform Lifts, Incline Platform Lifts), Ramps, Dumbwaiters, Door Operators?
- Do they have a website for us, our customers, and architects that contains product information, design specifications, manufacturer links, and other helpful resources?
